Happy Holidays, don't forget your flu shot

In a guest post on the American College of Cardiology blog, Carolyn Bridges from the CDC reminds us of a few facts about cardiac disease and influenza (citations).
  1. 40%of adults with cardiac disease get vaccinated
  2. Among adults who died of H1N1 in 2009, cardiac disease was the second most common comorbidity (behind COPD)
  3. The risk of hospitlization with influenza is triple for people with heart disease
  4. Vaccination decreases the risk of heart attack and death
And for you health care workers out there, enjoy this piece by Mark Crislip and remember, that 20% of influenza is subclinical and 27% of nosocomial acquired H1N1 cases are fatal. So, hug me, I'm vaccinated!
